When I was in Saint Louis a few weeks ago I had a chance to take some photos for future paintings. I was interested in some of the unconventional views at the Gateway Arch, the accidents of curated vision.

Some garden sketching
Beautiful afternoon in the garden. I added a lot more color to my palette for this year to go with the better weather. Nice to put some Daniel Smith carbazole violet and Winsor orange to good use on this one.
Backlog
A few weeks ago I was in eastern Kentucky and Tennessee. Dawn over the lake near Morristown, TN was lovely.
Then back home for a bit where I fit in a few small sketches.
Then on the road again to New Orleans. I had a few hours at the airport waiting for my plane to show up. At least there was an abundance of cones.
And back home once more, sketching some catmint in the front yard. After a week of consistent rain it was nice to have some sun and a few minutes to paint in between the backlog of yard work.

Through the trees
6×6 watercolor of the Potomac River. Ultramarine Blue, Viridian, Burnt Sienna, Van Dyck Brown, Yellow Ochre. A great color palette for fall and winter painting.
Red Rock Overlook
I hike and run at Red Rock Overlook a lot. This is the signature view. I wanted to see if I could make it look as if it had classical importance. 5×7 watercolor in yellow ochre and Van Dyck brown.
Ice Floes on the Potomac
12×16 watercolor. Looking out from the boat launch at Point of Rocks. Ultramarine, burnt sienna, yellow ochre, and viridian.
