I can’t remember when I last had a chance to draw or paint, we’ve been so happily occupied with other activities. It’s been nice to relax a little bit, today. I wasn’t sure what to do, so settled on a tree outside the window. #2 pencil in a Moleskine sketchbook.
The Schmincke set I got for Christmas has a nice Sepia in it. I have so far just used it to quickly darken colors, but I assume the real value would be for monochromes. To test it out I did this loose and imprecise 4×6 study of William Gilpin’s Lanscape with Ruined Castle from 1790.
I don’t draw much. I am trying to use pencil more to get a feel for a scene. These are from photos to get used to working this way. I will try to work one of these into a watercolor soon.
