This is the first year we have signed up for a CSA share, and we’ve loved it. The fun part is being forced to try new vegetables. This weekend the vege box included pattypan squash, which I had never heard of. I sliced them, sprinkled them with large salt flakes, and sautéed them in olive oil and butter. Delicious. As the pan warmed I knocked out this quick sketch.

It’s great how you’re finding your subjects everywhere, Corey. I wonder how drawing and water coloring a natural, rounded subject, such as the squash, will affect your architectural works in progress. I’m following the San Juan painting with excitement. Will the patty pan diversion make it easier for you to tackle those electric lines you mentioned a few postings ago?
Thanks for the comment.
Not sure about the impact of the sketching on the power lines, but I do want my sketching to help me be looser about these big paintings. I was so impressed with John Singer Sargent. I want to have some of that life in my work. I think knocking out these sketches frequently and quickly will help me do that.
